Jan Peumans visits construction site De Nieuwe Winning in Sint-Lambrechts-Herk

A while ago, the construction site of De Nieuwe Winning in Sint-Lambrechts-Herk received a special visitor. Jan Peumans, former chairman of the Flemish Parliament, visited the project where Reynders, in collaboration with Wonen in Limburg and various construction partners, is working on 50 sustainable social apartments.

An ambitious residential project with sustainable techniques

De Nieuwe Winning is a collaboration between Reynders, Wonen in Limburg, dbv architects, Heedfeld NV, Studiebureau Peeters – De Belder, Creteq and other partners. The project comprises 50 social flats, built with an eye on energy-efficient and sustainable living. This includes geothermal energy, rainwater recovery and well thought-out water management, techniques that are indispensable in future-oriented housing construction today.

The site shows how Reynders is committed to quality, cooperation and sustainability, also within the social housing segment.

A conversation between generations

During his visit, Jan Peumans took the time to talk to Laika Kolmer, an intern at Reynders and a student at PXL University College. In his role as president of the Associatie Universiteit-Hogescholen Limburg (AUHL) – to which Hogeschool PXL and UHasselt are affiliated – he elaborated on the challenges students face today in the construction sector.

The conversation revolved around the added value of internships in the field, the bridge between education and practice, and the future of young professionals in the sector. The interview was filmed and will be shown during the academic opening session of Hogeschool PXL and UHasselt on 18 September 2025.

A symbolic moment on the construction site

The visit underlines how important it is to give young people opportunities for real experience in the field, and how valuable the interaction between generations is. That an experienced voice like that of Jan Peumans enters into conversation with a young professional on a shipyard like De Nieuwe Winning, shows the power of cooperation and dialogue, something Reynders as a construction partner is fully committed to.

A construction site where not only flats are built, but also the future of the building sector.
