A few weeks ago, the renovated Capucijnenklooster in Maaseik officially opened its doors. The result is a beautiful blend of old and new – with respect for the past and attention to contemporary needs. Reynders is particularly proud to have contributed to this unique project, in collaboration with Covida, architects Erik Martens & Partners, and Group Monument – Goedleven.
A Monastery Site with a New Purpose
The Capucijnenklooster has been repurposed as a care site for Covida, an organization that supports people with disabilities. The renovation of the historic complex was carried out to perfection, with great care taken to preserve the character of the original architecture. Reynders was responsible for the new construction: a connecting volume between the church and the monastery, which seamlessly integrates both functionally and architecturally with the rest of the site.
The new building brings structure, clarity, and accessibility to the overall complex, without compromising the historical appearance of the monastery.
